Filter bag introduction:
Nomex filter bags (made from meta-aramid fibers) are a gold standard in industrial filtration for high-temperature applications that require a balance of durability and thermal stability.
Here are the primary characteristics of Nomex (Aramid) dust collector filter bags:
Nomex is designed to thrive where standard polyester bags would melt or degrade.
Continuous Operating Temperature: Up to 204°C (400°F).
Instantaneous Peaks: It can handle temperature spikes up to 240°C (464°F).
Stability: It does not melt or drip; instead, it begins to char at approximately 370°C.
Nomex fibers are incredibly tough. They offer excellent resistance to flexing, folding, and abrasion. This makes them ideal for pulse-jet cleaning systems where the bags are frequently expanded and contracted.
Compared to PPS or Fiberglass, Nomex has much higher resistance to mechanical wear. If your dust consists of sharp or abrasive particles (like cement or metal dust), Nomex typically offers a longer service life.
At its rated operating temperature, Nomex exhibits very low thermal shrinkage (usually less than 1%). This ensures the bags stay snug on their cages, preventing "bleeding" or dust bypass.
While Nomex is powerful, it has two specific weaknesses you must manage:
Hydrolysis Sensitivity: Nomex is prone to "hydrolysis" (breaking down in the presence of moisture and heat). If your flue gas has a high moisture content ($H_2O$) and acidic components, the fibers can become brittle and turn to powder.
Acid Resistance: It has moderate resistance to acids but is significantly weaker than PPS or PTFE in highly acidic environments.
